Effect of Piperine on Diameter of Graafian Follicles of Adult Female Albino Rats

Background: Piperine is an alkaloid present in black pepper. It causes increase diameter of Graafian follicles when given to adult female albino rats thus leading decreased fertility. Aim: To assess the harmful effects piperine on ovaries follicles. Study design: Experimental Study. Place and duration study: Anatomy Department, Shaikh Zayed PGMI, Lahore from 1st August 2013 31st January 2014. Methodology: Thirty were randomly separated into three equal groups A, B C, each having 10 animals. Group A was control did not receive any medication except for normal saline at a dose 10ml/kg body weight/day by orogastric tube 30 days. C received suspended tube, of5mg/kg/day mg/kg/day respectively After days experiment, all euthanized removed dissection then fixed 10% formalin. With rotary microtome, 4-5μm sections prepared stained with hematoxylin eosin solutions. Results: The follicle group showed increased as compared A. greater than B. In both comparison made, p-value less 0.001. Conclusion: administration significant size which likely produce polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) this way hamper fertility females during child bearing age.
